Why keep the two device types separate?
A total of 12 conceals the distinction between switches and receptacles. Keep the symbol, type and unit visible so each quantity receives the correct material and installation scope. If the schedule identifies different ratings, finishes or configurations, split those rows too. The review should be able to move from a priced line item back to a specific symbol and location.
How should you handle a drawing revision?
Preserve the original checked count, record the new revision and identify additions, removals and substitutions. If a sample room changes from 8 to 10 receptacles, the increase is 2; it does not establish what happens elsewhere in the plan. Reconcile the entire affected scope and keep a note explaining each changed quantity instead of silently replacing the old total.
What remains after checking the symbols?
Read the notes, schedules and diagrams that define the work behind each symbol. Measure lengths where needed and keep assumptions about routing visible. Review existing, demolition, future and alternate work separately. A correct symbol count is one input to an electrical estimate; it is not a design check, a load calculation or a complete installed price.
What does CyanBuild software cost?
These are CyanBuild’s published software plans as checked on October 6, 2026. Each allowance is for PDF pages per month. You review the quantities; an outsourced takeoff service is a separate purchase.
| Plan | Monthly price | PDF pages / month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 |
| Starter | $29 | 30 |
| Pro | $99 | 120 |
| Enterprise | $299 | 400 |
Paid subscriptions renew according to their terms. A page allowance does not guarantee the completeness of a takeoff, and unused capacity does not turn the subscription into a per-project service. Check current features and terms before choosing a plan.
What else should you check?
- Are the example quantities from a real building?
- No. The quantities are explicitly illustrative and exist only to explain the review method. Use checked project drawings for actual takeoff.
- Can I add switches and receptacles together?
- You may use a combined count as a reconciliation check, but keep separate priced line items because the specifications and scope differ.
- Does CyanBuild validate the electrical design?
- This guide describes draft PDF quantity review. It does not claim electrical engineering, code compliance or complete scope validation.
Where do the figures and product facts come from?
