What should you include in a lumber takeoff request?
State the project type and drawing revision, then identify whether the scope includes wall framing, floor framing, roof framing, sheathing, engineered members and connectors. Ask whether the output is a material list, marked drawing or priced estimate. Clarify who checks missing structural details and whether revisions are included. A low headline price means little without these boundaries.
How is software cost different from a service fee?
Software provides the tools and capacity to do the work. A takeoff service supplies labor and a specified deliverable, with its own review and revision terms. Compare the subscription, your estimating time and the service quotation separately. Do not describe a monthly included-page calculation as the price of a completed framing job.
How should you review the delivered material list?
Check member dimensions, grade, length and treatment against the design. Keep counts, linear feet, board feet and sheet areas explicit instead of treating them as interchangeable. Reconcile accessories and responsibility splits with the supplier or estimator. A supplier quote for lumber may omit labor, connectors, delivery or other scope that belongs in the final project budget.
What does CyanBuild software cost?
These are CyanBuild’s published software plans as checked on October 6, 2026. Each allowance is for PDF pages per month. You review the quantities; an outsourced takeoff service is a separate purchase.
| Plan | Monthly price | PDF pages / month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 |
| Starter | $29 | 30 |
| Pro | $99 | 120 |
| Enterprise | $299 | 400 |
Paid subscriptions renew according to their terms. A page allowance does not guarantee the completeness of a takeoff, and unused capacity does not turn the subscription into a per-project service. Check current features and terms before choosing a plan.
What else should you check?
- Can the city construction-cost pages price a lumber takeoff service?
- No. Those pages use illustrative construction-budget assumptions. They do not contain observed takeoff-service quotes or support a local estimator-fee calculation.
- Does the CyanBuild subscription include an estimator’s lumber list?
- No. The published subscription is software capacity for PDF takeoff and quantity review. A completed outsourced material list requires its own service agreement.
- What is the first question to ask a takeoff provider?
- Ask exactly what the quoted deliverable covers, which drawing revision it uses and how corrections and addenda are handled. Then compare the fee with other offers for the same scope.
