How should you organize framing line items?
Separate wall, floor and roof framing, then identify members by their actual specified dimensions and product requirements. Keep engineered members distinct from ordinary dimension lumber. Record individual lengths where purchasing depends on stock sizes. Sheathing, blocking and connectors need their own rows so a linear-foot total does not hide work sold or installed in another unit.
What does the example calculation demonstrate?
The sample uses 12 assumed members at 8 ft each, giving 96 linear feet. This is only a multiplication example. Nominal size, actual dimensions and board-foot conventions serve different purposes, so do not relabel that length as volume. For actual work, use the specified member schedule and review the length and count against openings, corners and intersections.
What should you check before asking a supplier to price it?
Clarify grade, species or engineered product, treatment and delivery requirements. Review which connectors, sheathing and temporary works are included in the material list. Keep order allowances separate from measured quantities and state the drawing revision. A supplier can then price defined products rather than guessing what a generic framing total contains.
What can you download and adapt?
A plain CSV worksheet you can open in Excel or another spreadsheet application. The values below are illustrative inputs, not measured project data. The CSV contains static values; it does not include formulas, macros, engineering checks or prices.
| Drawing | Assembly | Member specification | Length ft | Count | Total LF | Review note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Example only | Example wall | Confirm from design | 8 | 12 | 96 | Illustrative values only |
What does CyanBuild software cost?
These are CyanBuild’s published software plans as checked on October 6, 2026. Each allowance is for PDF pages per month. You review the quantities; an outsourced takeoff service is a separate purchase.
| Plan | Monthly price | PDF pages / month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 3 |
| Starter | $29 | 30 |
| Pro | $99 | 120 |
| Enterprise | $299 | 400 |
Paid subscriptions renew according to their terms. A page allowance does not guarantee the completeness of a takeoff, and unused capacity does not turn the subscription into a per-project service. Check current features and terms before choosing a plan.
What else should you check?
- Does the spreadsheet calculate stud spacing?
- No. Use the spacing and framing requirements given in the approved project design. The worksheet organizes reviewed quantities without supplying structural assumptions.
- Can I combine linear feet and sheets?
- No. Keep the unit beside each item and total compatible quantities only. Separate units are necessary for meaningful pricing and purchasing.
- Is the download a complete framing package?
- No. It is an editable CSV structure with a labeled arithmetic example. Complete the scope from project documents and check the supplier’s proposed order.
