Roofing takeoff template: roof planes, edges and order units

A roofing takeoff template should identify each roof plane, distinguish plan area from sloped surface area and keep linear accessories in their own rows. Record the covering system and product requirements before converting area into an order quantity. The downloadable CSV is a review structure with an illustrative area, not a roof design or measured job. Confirm geometry, laps, penetrations and manufacturer coverage before you request material pricing.

Which quantities should the template separate?

Keep roof covering area separate from ridges, hips, valleys, eaves, rakes and flashing lengths. Identify penetrations, curbs and special details by count or the unit required for that item. Group each covering type separately. A roof-area total alone does not account for edge accessories or distinguish products with different coverage and fastening requirements.

How do you keep measured area and order coverage apart?

Store the reviewed roof surface area as a measured quantity. Put product coverage, laps, cuts and any justified order allowance in separate fields. The sample uses a notional 1,200 square feet solely to show the table structure. It is not a field measurement, and no waste percentage is built in. Check actual coverage in the selected product documentation.

What should accompany the quotation request?

Give suppliers the covering system, required products, measured units, site location and delivery requirements. Include a list of accessories and clarify who checks compatibility with the specification. Keep quote validity and exclusions beside the rate. This makes different supplier responses easier to reconcile than asking for a single price based only on roof area.

What can you download and adapt?

A plain CSV worksheet you can open in Excel or another spreadsheet application. The values below are illustrative inputs, not measured project data. The CSV contains static values; it does not include formulas, macros, engineering checks or prices.

The sample area is illustrative. Verify actual roof geometry and product coverage.

What does CyanBuild software cost?

These are CyanBuild’s published software plans as checked on October 6, 2026. Each allowance is for PDF pages per month. You review the quantities; an outsourced takeoff service is a separate purchase.

Published monthly plans in USD. Source: CyanBuild pricing.
PlanMonthly pricePDF pages / month
Free$03
Starter$2930
Pro$99120
Enterprise$299400

Paid subscriptions renew according to their terms. A page allowance does not guarantee the completeness of a takeoff, and unused capacity does not turn the subscription into a per-project service. Check current features and terms before choosing a plan.

What else should you check?

Does the CSV calculate the roof slope?
No. It is a worksheet for entering and reviewing quantities. Determine each roof plane from the drawings and confirm the pitch or actual dimensions before entering surface area.
Does it include a default waste factor?
No. Record a project-specific order allowance separately and explain its basis. Do not confuse it with measured area or add it twice.
Can AI symbol counts replace roof measurement?
No. A count is not surface area. Geometry and units must be checked before a roofing quantity can support pricing.

Where do the figures and product facts come from?

Sources checked October 6, 2026. Published prices can change; verify the actual terms before purchasing. Worked examples on this page are labeled separately from published product or service facts.
